Itinerary 3 Days Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour
Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Gorges via Ait Ben Haddou
Your 3-day desert journey begins early in the morning from Marrakech, crossing the stunning High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, you will enjoy panoramic views of mountain peaks, winding roads, and traditional Berber villages. Several stops are made for photos and short breaks to admire the scenery. The first major highlight is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a historic ksar known for its clay architecture and film history. After visiting the site, continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert,” before traveling through Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses. The landscape gradually becomes more dramatic as you reach the Dades Valley. By late afternoon, you arrive at Dades Gorges. Here, you will enjoy dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or riad surrounded by impressive rock formations and peaceful mountain scenery.
Day 2: Dades Gorges to Merzouga via Todra Gorge
After breakfast, you continue your journey toward the Sahara Desert. The first stop is the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering red cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of a narrow river canyon. You can walk through the gorge and enjoy the fresh mountain atmosphere. The journey continues through Berber villages, palm oases, and desert towns like Tinjdad and Erfoud, known for fossils and dates. As you approach Merzouga, the landscape becomes increasingly arid and open, signaling your arrival at the Sahara. In the afternoon, you reach Merzouga, gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Day 3: Merzouga to Marrakech via Atlas Mountains
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the highlights of the Sahara experience. After breakfast, you return by camel or 4×4 vehicle to Merzouga and begin your long journey back to Marrakech. The route passes through vast desert landscapes, palm groves, and scenic mountain views.
You will travel through the beautiful Draa Valley and the traditional Berber village of Agdz. The journey continues toward Ouarzazate. After crossing the High Atlas Mountains, you enjoy stunning panoramic views along the way. The tour ends upon arrival in Marrakech.
